So, my valve jr. is way too loud for practice at night. if my wife is home, it is too loud for anytime. So, I thought I would share what I use.

I have a Roland X8 keyboard, that you can use as a digital recorder. It also has a headphone jack.

So, I plug my mic into it, I can run it through FX (up to 3, I usually use just reverb and equalization), then I have a pair of PC speakers jacked into the headphone jack.

This works great for my purposes, but, I'd like to work more with the tube amp sound because I like it. The question is: How can I do that without splitting my ears? To get the type of distortion I want to play with I have to crank up.

Google low power tube amp, or small tube amp.
Try and get one that's 1w or less.

Some are expensive, but if you can use a soldering iron.
There are some free schematics on the web to build a small tube amp, or buy a kit.

I built this one, with a different tone stack

Maybe something like the Lone Wolf Harp Attack pedal would do you ? Use it as a pre-amp to get lots of distortion, plugged into your amp with the volume low.

Buy a Lone Wolf Harp Tone+ pedal. You can dial in your sound on the amp and use the volume control on the pedal to alter the volume. It's a handy little feature that I discovered after reading a post by htownfess.

I use my Roland Micro Cube.
It has the headphone jack plus the auxiliary imput for MP3, CD players ect. to jam along to.
It has turned out to be the most useful practice amp I've ever owned for both harp and guitar.

I have also possibility to put headphones to my Marble Max line out and unplug the speaker. Custom build tube sound for harmonica.

Another device that I have used is my Behringer V-amp 2, it has also tube simulations.
