A fog horn?

Could be many issues, including technique especially since you are new.

As far as ruling out the harp, try tapping it, not too hard, on a firm surface(and NOT on the cover plates). If that doesn't work, remove the cover plates, then remove the reed plates. Get one of those white plastic anti-theft magnetic strips off of a cd wrapper or other electronic item's package, and carefully cut it open. There are some very thin metal strips inside-keep these! Take one and slide it on both sides of each reed, and slip it back and forth lenghtwise. This will hopefully deburr the reed plates. Also, while you have the reed plates off, look at each reed's free end-there should be roughly a reed's thickness between this free end and the reed plate, a little more or less, but it SHOULDN'T be hung up on the reed plate. If so, gently push it until it frees up. Put it back together and try it again. You can go much, much further, but this should hopefully free up the burrs left from machining. Oh, and look up at the reed plates with a light above you-do the reeds look centered?

Good luck, and let us know if the problem persists.
