Harmonica Clubs can be fun and a great place to learn
stuff. Philly has One called H.A.R.P.
We have guests come to give seminars and
and members do seminars. A couple times a year we have
big party jam session with a full band so eveybody
gets to play.

I can hear that the
members of the club have gotten much better over the
last year.

Ok if you have a club don't be shy shout it out.
There may be somebody on the list just looking
for a club to learn more about playing the harmonica.

i dont know how many lurkers are on this forum but maybe we can help get some clubs going.
folks that dont have clubs available to them can perhaps list their area and maybe others will see it and begin talks about forming a club.
and those with clubs can tell us how they got theirs going.

There's this great one in Philly ... oh wait, that was covered.

But seriously, unless my job screws up my shifts, I will attend & contribute to all the harmonica club meetings we have :) . I think it's a great community to support and keep alive. Not to mention it's one of the few times I get out of my woodshed and into the real world with the harmonica!

@mdazc "Any ideas on how to start one?"

All it takes is one dedicated individual. And you have to have something to offer that the players want.

If you are a good player, teach advances technigues. If an average player, teach begining lessons. If you can play a guitar, strum the chords so others can play along. The chances of success are greater if it is more than just harp players getting together,

What JimR said...I started our club with another guy a year and a half ago. We posted ads on Craigslist and in the local paper and their website, and posted flyers in music stores. We went to bars and night clubs where there were harp players and befreinded them. We started at the other founder's house, and migrated to a couple other meeting spots in bars, and have settled on a good one where we have plenty room and can play amped up if we choose, then one of the city's best jams happen there when our meeting is wrapping up.

We are fortunate to have a few multi-instrumentalists as members who can double on guitar, and last meeting we had a great keyboardist who came to our meeting, just to back us up. Fun stuff.

Anyone with a little initiative can start a club. Take advantage of the internet and free bulletin boards, both online and in music shops, coffee houses, etc. and you'll pull people out of the woodwork. I designed our logo and printed some shirts, and have met a few new members who saw my shirt and inquired about it.

Frederick MD has H.O.O.P.F. There is a meeting this Thursday if anyone Baltimore area is interested message or email. I'll help ya get there.

I also can't say enough about The Archie Edwards Barbershop Blues Foundation. Just off the D.C. Beltway in Riverdale MD. While it is Not a Harp Club there are many good Harp Players affiliated and all are willing to help, teach and talk shop. AEBF holds a Jam every Saturday afternoon at 1:00
