Why do I have so much trouble with some of them. Especially the 8 draw on my C G/M that I play all the time. The other harps ( SP20's LO's )seem to have trouble there too. Oh, wait, could it be me?

The upper holes need less air than the lower ones but I can't see anything special with hole 8 that is much different than, say, hole 9 or 10 ... what kind of trouble do you have?

Less air may be the culprit but the best way I can describe it is it's just not there in any consistant way. I hear many people play these notes on YT and they're strong. Mine, if there, sounds very weak.

I have found that the upper register is much easier to play if I use tongue blocking rather than LP. Give it a try.

Gapping and arcing of the reed compared to other reeds is some of it. Mostly it is technique. ---------- Mike Fugazzi vocals/harmonica MySpace YouTube Twitter Facebook Album Ordering

I agree with "easyed". That's how I did it at 1st but I finally got my chops in shape and can do it pursed now with no trouble. It's the shape of your mouth and direction of the air current along with how hard you are drawing. hang in there it takes practice. Mike

It could be you,but in the upper holes the reed gap is small. It doesn't take much crud to make them unresponsive. Even dried saliva can make them stick.

Until recently I rarely went to the high end. My new teacher put an end to that, though. I had a hell of a time getting good notes. After a lot of frustrating trial and error, I realised that my tongue was blocking airflow. Pulling it back and down a bit made all the difference in the world (for me at least!).

I had a hell of a hard time playing higher notes until I relaxed my embouchure entirely and lowered my jaw. No problems now.

Its all speculation at this point the best way to get the answer is to post a vid or sound file. Then you would get a definate way forward.

In addition to the other good suggestions, be sure to produce all air from the diaphragm NOT the mouth or lips.
