Do any of you have experience with these? Robert Tooms (Reba Russell Band) recommended them to me (I know you can change the reed plates like LO's). I need to pick up a new "C" but I'm partial to the Golden Melody as always-Thanks

I have a couple and really can't find any difference between it and a Blues Harp. I might get flamed, but I like the Big Rivers as much as any MS Hohner.

In the early 90s these were my favourite harmonicas. Then Hohner completely changed them so the that they were part of the truly horrible MS range. I haven't played them since.

It was my first harp and I still have the one I replaced it with when the first was stolen. It's a pre-MS one and isn't good now. I pensioned it off a couple of years ago when I went to a workshop and found that it was the reason I couldn't bend anything. I'm sure it was more to do with the age of it an the abuse it had seen than the actual harp.

To big for me and they don't slide on my lips well, I guess it's the black paint and they seem to take more air to blow. G/M's and SP20's are what I use. Most are good OOTB but I still gap them the way I like them. Just my opinion. Mike

Thanks, looks like I'll stick to GM and not experiment. I like them much better than the SP20 due to the shape.

In case you feel like experimenting. Did you have a look at suzukis? ---------- germanharpist on YT. =;-) - Resonance is KEY!

I play a full 14 key set. I also have a variety of others ( sp20 -MB-Manji-LO ) but my jam night harps are my pro harps. I don't like the taste of the nickle? plating on most other harps. Contrary to what has been said they are not just painted black. They have a Greblon (what ever that is )coated coverplate. The coating does not chip off like paint would. As far as the MS series, I do a little work on them and find I can play with them just fine and like the option of replacing reed plates. As always just my opinion. YMMV

So I went to the music store and looked at the Hohner display rack where they have all of them in a package hung up now. I really don't like that because I would at least like to pick it up out of the box and feel of it. Couldn't decide between the Pro Harp- Big River- and Blues Harp (They won't keep G/M's arghhh). I like the larger openings in the Pro and Big River. The Blues Harp looks like it has smaller openings like the Marine Band. So, I bought the Pro. It felt light. Played a few notes and picked up my trusty G/M. The G/M seemed deeper in tone, louder and has more weight. I think I'll give the Pro to my son as a first harp. FWIW.

The black coverplates are kinda cool. I don't care for them in any other way, though. -------------------- Murray. The smartist formerly known as Elwood.

I have one in B and its the worst harp i own. its very leaky and takes a massive amount of effort to play. I may have just had a bad one but it was enough to put me off.
