I've been gapping my reeds (no other modifications) to help attain over-blows ever since I saw Adam do it last March at jamcamp. I play Golden Melodys and even if a hole overblows well right out of the box, it plays better if gapped closer.
I just checked out overblow.com looking for some answers but still am not sure on a few things. Please comment even if you don't have the answers.
1. When I push the reed for gapping, I apply pressure as close to the rivet as I can. Is this correct or should I be pushing on the loose end or somewhere in between?
2.I gap blow reeds for OBs and draw reeds for ODs. Should I also gap the other reed in the same hole? Should I gap all reeds as tight as possible on the harp?..even if the hole is not used for OBs or ODs?
3.The web site list harp modifications as gapping, arcing, waxing the rivet, embossing, tip scooping, corner rounding, and replacing the weighted reeds. Do I need to learn all these techniqes and use them on every harp I purchase to get maximum performance? Custom harps are not an option. I'm sure gapping is most important but not sure how the rest would prioritize??
