I have been trying to record using Garageband on my Mac. No problem if I use the built in mic. But I would like to plug directly into my Mac. I think I am having LINE IN problems. I'll try to describe what I am doing or have done
1. Set up my Mic and Pignose.
2. ran a cable from PREAMP OUT to my Mac using a 1/8 inch jack in a plug with this symbol >0<
3. Started Garageband and tried to pic an input source. all my options were some form of the built in mic.
4. Tried to record but built in mic recorded instead of recording from the LINE IN
or
1. Followed Garageband tutorials and plugged guitar directly into >0< with and without going through the amp.
2. Tried to record but built in mic recorded instead of recording from the LINE IN
I have looked online for info and get the idea that >0< is not a standard Mic input and I need some kind of gizmo to make it work
Any Ideas what I am doing wrong or need to do?

Have you gone into system preferences->sound->input and selected line in instead of built in mic? I think you might need to do this before firing up garageband

Hi Stickman, If you tell garageband your using a guitar you can use all the effects pedals and amp sims they've got in there as standard and feed the line out to your amp as well - its a useful toy. But careful, you can spend more time messing about than playing :)

I've used garageband a little bit to record some basic demos to circulate to bandmates. The loops suck, I was trying to do a 12/8 shuffle rhythm - no chance. I ended up recording some handclaps as a beat. My amp has a headphone socket, I used that as a line out into the computer. I think that was giving me a better result than recording directly into the computer. Don't get me wrong - the apple effects are great fun, but I think they just sound a bit sterile. I'd love to spend a bit more time setting up some recording at home, trying to get some ambience with a good mic in an acoustically good room. But I guess I should spend more time playing rather than tinkering.
