Hi all,
I just bought a Carvin Vintage 16 and I'm trying to figure some things out.
The store where I got the amp said that if I use 'normal' power mode (the switch on the back for 16 watt) that is the most power I'll get.
Another musician says that if I switch to 5watt it is like adding 5 more watts of power - an equivalent of 21 watts.
As far as I can tell there is no difference in power when I switch.

Anyone out there that can tell me the difference between the 2 and what would be best for the harp, in general.

thanks again, Valerio

Normally, a switch like that would make the amp either 5 watts or 16 watts. I imagine it'd make it either a push pull amp giving 16 watts or single ended giving the 5 watts.( I imagine it has 2 power tubes. 16 watts would use both of them, 5 watts would use just one) the switch would not give you an extra 5 watts. As for what's better for harp, then I would just use your ears. Just dial in the sound you liked whether it be 5 or 16 watts. And remember that a 50 watt amp sounds only twice as loud as a 5 watt amp, so a 16 watt amp is not three times as loud as a 5 watt. But once again, use your ears and use what YOU like.
