I have been wanting to make a series of How-To Instructional Videos for a while. I have just been so busy that it is hard to find/make the time. I get so many questions from customers – many of which are the same questions over and over from different people. It is not very efficient to answer each of them individually, but that is what I’ve been doing. It would be far better if I could just send them a link to a video that would address their questions.

So, with that in mind, I have created a Slide Show that offers instructions on How to Convert a Classic Marine Band 1896 from Nails to Screws. This is a project that thousands of harmonica players have tackled over the years. After all, there are literally millions of Marine Band 1896 harmonicas in circulation, which up until 2011, were made with unsealed pear wood combs that can swell, warp and crack due to the soft wood absorbing moisture from the player’s breath. These instructions will help you whether you plan to retain the original pear wood comb or if you plan to install a new custom comb on your Marine Band 1896. I have compared notes with some of my Harp Tech buddies and I understand that there are different ways of taking on this job. Over the past 11+ years, I have converted thousands of Marine Bands from nails to screws. This method is what works for me. It is fast. It is simple. It delivers consistently excellent results. I am not saying that my way is the best way or that if you do it in another way that you are wrong. So, with that in mind, have a look.

Tom, I actually did something similar in the early '00's to a few of the nail variety. Not nearly as neat and precise as you show there. I may do your method when the need arises again!
Many thanks for the valuable information I think will be an asset to many folks.
A tip of the blues hat.....

Really good info Tom. This will help me on some of the Vintage Harps I like to tinker with.
