I've only got Harlem Blues, but I've just ordered Mother Mojo. The only thing putting me off getting Living on the River is Customs and Excise and the fact that both US merchants only score 93% on Amazon, which means one of them alone has had about 4,000 less-that-satisfied customers in the last 12 months! (OK, forget that - amazon.com is a lot better than amazon.co.uk for CDs, so I ordered a copy)

I love Harlem Blues and I'd recommend it to everyone, especially beginners like me who want to jam to a record, because Adam only uses A, Bb and C harps, which is convenient.

Thanks for the beginner tips on Harlem Blues. Might have to see about getting that one.
Does it tell you which harp is used on each track, or is it easy to tell ?

I know what you mean about Customs & Excise. Been stung there before.

The only Gussow CD I have is Adam with Charlie Hillbert. It rocks.

I got Harlem Blues and Word on the Street. Be warned: The latter doesn't come nicely packaged in studio production, so if that's your thing it's a no-no. But it gives you a pretty outstanding idea of what they'd sound like on the street. Overall I prefer Harlem Blues: it ties them down and shoves 'em into a 4:33 time slot, and dusts some of the street offa them. Simple matter of taste, I guess.

I don't have Word on the Street yet; but of the above three, Living on the River has been spending the most time in my car stereo lately.

Hate to disagree with you, 7th, but I think you've transcribed some 3rd position songs into 2nd. I'm not too familiar with those albums but I'm pretty sure Thunky Fing for one is 3rd.

Harlem Blues track 4 is the Bb harp, so you could even get by without one of those.

If it's on a Bb harp, then it's going to be F. I'm pretty sure Adam only plays in 2nd position on that album.

Incidentally, how do you arrange your CDs, by artist or by genre? If I arrange by artist, then Satan and Adam come between Royksopp and the Sex Pistols, which seems kinda wrong to me. But if you arrange them by genre, then you get problems with fusions and cross-overs.

Got it, thanks. I arrange my CDs alphabetically by artist. I have too many genre-defying albums to bother attempting to classify them that way. But yeah, doing this creates some pretty strange neighbors.

I might have to agree on Mother Mojo.

Though, I'm not saying this has the best harmonica or anything I'm saying I just enjoy this one the best.

I also have Living on the River, Word on the street, & Live at the empire (which unfortunately has a number of unplayable/unlistenable tracks, at least my discs).

Tough to pick. I have all but Mother Mojo (will get ASAP). My favorite is Word on the Street.
