i've been listening to some of otavio castro's youtube stuff.
i understand,this guy plays everything,in all keys,on a 10 hole diatonic C harp.
his excellence is beyond question, but, his music, going on the limited amount of his music i've heard,is as boring as it gets for me.
music should be about saying something.a blur of notes isn't music,no matter how difficult,or,impossible to us mere mortals.
someone once said,"rests arn't music, but there would be no music without them."
as with everyone else,i would love to be able to do what he can do,but,i wouldn't play as he does.
is there something of his that i could listen to that has more appeal than i've heard?
i dont know of anyone else who plays everything in all keys on a C harp.
he's taken the harp to another level that i wasn't aware of,shame about his end product.

Just like Howard Levy,Octavio has unbelievably incredible technical skill.
Also like Howard his music does leave me feeling cold. It's not bad, it's just simply not my cup of tea.

At the end of the day it all comes down to personal taste. You like what you like.

I'm glad though that people like Howard and Octavio are out there and pushing the boundaries.

I'm very firmly in the same camp as you two are.

I get bored utterly rigid with what often seems to me like virtuosity for its own sake.

Though, aside from my personal taste - which, after all, is not important to anyone else - is the more damaging thing, whereby inexperienced players can become more obsessed with fancy stuff than they are about solid foundational technique. It can be very stifling to a player's progress.

Who am I talking about here? Myself.

As a kid learning piano, I was all wrapped up trying to play Liszt when I hadn't bothered to learn some basic Bach. The damage to my technique was enormous.

I know it's a different instrument, but the principle is the same.
