I'm on the stage where I'm extremely happy whenever I see harp playing in television - no matter how good or bad. Thus I'm also happy that the instrument was so visible in that great event watched by millions of people - well, perhaps not here in Finland but anyway.

Although I must say it really was bad playing, not only the tone and accuracy but also the timing. Still I'm kinda happy about that since our bands first gig will be next month and I'm SURE I can't be that bad even if I'd get serious stage freight.. :)

Is the lesson to learn from the pros here that it isn't the skillful playing but the good energy that matters when you are performing? If you watch that video you can hear people screaming in exitement after that harp solo... ;)

As it was said in some movie I watched: "People will hear what they see."

It has been a long time since the SB Halftime Show has been about performance - it is all about "spectacle". Daltrey and Townshend are legends, and the Who is responsible for the theme songs for three of CBS's top rated shows. It was an easy pick...

I looked at it as I do all entertainment - I'll look for quality in MY choices, but if it's stuck in front of me, I'm not going to grade on "quality". If it entertains me, great; if not, then I'll shut it off. It entertained me.

And it was neat to see the harp on the big stage, regardless. I've seen plenty of train wrecks of harp playing on the world wide web, yet still watch/listen simply because it's a harmonica...
