Did anybody watch The Voice last night? When I saw that Kenzie Wheeler (The 23-year-old, mullet-wearing, country singer from Dover, Florida,) was going to sing the country classic “He Stopped Loving Her Today” made famous by George Jones, I wondered if they would add a harmonica player to the live band. I was expecting at least the Charlie McCoy modulation. Well they had a guy that looked like he might have had a harp beneath his flapping hands while seated on the downstage edge of the stage, but I never heard one note. Was this guy an LA harp player that got a bad deal on his mic/channel/mix or just a stand-in?

BTW: I did see AND HEAR the great Rob Paparozzi on Letterman play the parts very well with the old possum himself in 2006.

I missed that part of The Voice episode. I was potentially hoping if there was an opportunity this year on The Voice it may have come my way. Blake's team was narrowed down to the young Cam (seems to by far be this season's favorite) and Jordan Matthew Young. Jordan just won the "wild card" 5 th spot in the Final last night....that will air next week. I am San Diego now (close to LA) but prior to Covid I was in Austin 6 years.
I played many shows with Jordan Matthew Young, he would hire me to play with his full band and we also traveled some and played just as a guitar/harp duo. Depending on the Venue, like Black's BBQ in New Braunfels, we would play country all night, he is like an encyclopedia of country (George Jones, Hank Williams, etc.) but if with full band in places like White Horse or Oskar Blues & Brews then we would go much more into Blues Rock (his originals) and some Blues (My Babe, etc.). Fun gigs since when I played full-time it was pure country honky-tonk material.
Even recorded in studio on a couple songs coming out on his next album. Blues, Blues Rock tunes. I am sure many of us when we hear things like these shows and the harp is so under-represented, likely some guitar played who knows a few licks.
By the way, Jordan has backed up on guitar several harp players, John Nemeth, Tony Holiday, others I do not recall.
