Like many of you I have pretty severe symptoms of GAS and the bullet mics that go with the disease. I'm wondering how others store their mics. Do you keep them out on display, store them individually in some way or store multiples in a case of some type? I currently have mine in a briefcase that came with foam for storing tools, etc.
All the best!
Jay

PS...Are others getting obsessed with gear while gigs are so few and far between?

I store my mics in either hard shell foam-lined case, like for camera equipment and/or camera nylon padded case with handle on top that has these foam padded/wrapped in these built-in padded divers. For crystal mics I only use at major concert or studio sessions (these are R7 elements) I keep those little silica moisture packs (from vitamin jars) in there too. The nylon bag with dividers (where lenses would go) works for me since, at least in my last band, in a night we would play in every single of 12 keys (horn players on board) and female soprano singer and I would use a PE585, PE54, and crystals in bullets (one main, one back-up) and usually a CR or CM just in case to cover the styles.
I do not display mics, since mostly crystals and wish to keep temp/humidity fluctuations down.
BTW camera bags are thrift shop finds.

I keep mine in socks and moccasins, mostly in a travel case with various other spare bits of kit like extra chromatics and mic leads, power leads, notebooks; all the miscellaneous stuff I lug about that I don't normally need or can't predict whether I'll need. I often need something from that case but it's hard to say just what it will be. My vocal mic is in there too, along with a mic clip and adaptor ring.
I have a 520SL with desk stand on display mainly because I don't know what else to do with the desk stand and it looks dumb without a mic on top. I think the 520 is one of the mics I'm less likely to use so what the hey, it's an ornament.
I keep the go-to mics in a briefcase, wrapped up. That's the case which has my gig set harps and back ups, my selected mic leads, pen and set lists. The stage kit, if you like. There are always 2 mics in there.
That's it!

My wife buys cheap washers, then folds them into four and sews two edges and you've got a great padded toweling pocket to store a bullet in.
For my stick mics, EV RE 10, Sennheiser 835 and my SM 57 I have custom rolled up tubes of bubble wrap, these then all drop into the one Shure SM-57 wallet along with the impedance matching transformer and Blows Me Away XLR volume control.

I made and painted a jt 30 and 2 chopped turners.
Have a couple stick mics .

With my pedals and mics I do the same thing

I cut towels to fit the size of of mic or pedal [w/ overlap] I put them in Qt size sandwich bags and in "whatever" a small daypack. The sandwich bag keeps the wrapping in place. dont seal the bag " too time consuming". I just fold it and tuck it in a pack with pedals and other mics--

I also do superbee deal---I cut socks in half and put them in there and then in sandwich bag.

I always have padding thats quick and easy-thick socks cut in half work great. I always put in plastic bag [especially when wrapped with towel], to hold towel in place.

I carry 2 mics when we play electric, a modded dynamic hi z EV and a dynamic Shaker which has a hi z transformer with it. Both are very durable. The EV is a NOS military mic from 1955 and could hammer nails then plug and play, the Shaker is maybe not that tough but the element is not so susceptible to shocks or temps. They both ride in style in Crown Royal bags in the case with my cables and etc. for the p.a. and a harp delay pedal.

Home storage:
By stealing my wife's stuff, I have a rectangular wicker basket that has a cloth liner; a thin piece of bubble wrap on the bottom; microphones; a nice patterned cloth drapes over the top to keep the dust out. This sits on a shelf (with nothing over it) for easy grabbing of mikes. Works for me. Fortunately, the basket is full, so I can't get even more!

Hello 9000, you asked about storing multiple bullet mics. I have three, two with crystal elements and one with a dynamic element.

The conversation has veered to "storing mics" generally.

So, with that in mind... zippered pencil cases, the kind your mother bought for elementary school in September.

Back in the day ('70s), I didn't store mics at all. I kept them, naked, in the small travel bag I brought to gigs. I'd throw the mics back in the bag when I was done.

Twenty years later, another harmonica player saw what I was doing. He said, "You need to protect your mics". He showed me the pencil cases he kept his in. They are big enough for bullet mics and long enough for stick mics. I saw the light, and have been using pencil cases ever since. By some miracle, my Astatic JT-30 mic survived the abuse I gave it and sounds as good, now, as it did in the '70s. It's now in a padded pencil case.

Cheers,
wolf kristiansen

p.s. About GAS-- I now have 15 microphones, though I play much less than I did 40 years ago! I've not been tempted to keep them out on display since I got them for sound, not looks.
p.p.s. Gabriel Harmonic's tip about using silica moisture packs for crystal mics was another "aha" moment. I live in a very wet part of the northwest coast of Canada, and shall be looking for those silica packs.
p.p.p.s. An amplifier technician told me once, "Don't store your amp anywhere you wouldn't sleep". I took my harp amp out of the basement and moved it one floor up. That rule probably applies to microphones. If you wouldn't sleep in some room, neither should your microphones.

Aah, so that was you, Wolf, from whom I got that thing about storing the gear in places I would sleep. I've had that in mind for years now but I couldn't recall where I'd picked it up.

Edit to correct some auto-correct predicted nonsense
