Only kinda O.T. because there is not a lot of blues here.

Sarge (Jim McDonald) graciously sent me a copy of his new CD, titled Poor Man’s Fiddle volume 3. I met Sarge about 2 or 3 years ago at the Bean Blossom Blues Festival. He and I sat down and did a handful of old traditional tunes.

This CD is a collection of 16 instrumental tunes played in that traditional tongue blocking style with tongue slapping giving the backing chords in a solid rhythm. His playing on these tunes is as fine as I have heard anywhere, I would not be surprised if these tracks wound up as background music on a movie about the old west, they are of top professional quality.

Of the 16 tunes, the last 2 do lean to blues content. Both tunes are a one chord drone, where Sarge plays and wails with soul. If you get a chance to meet Sarge, ask him for a CD.

You can also find Sarge on Facebook and he has recently put out a handful of videos. You can check out there.

I second Jim's motion. I have Sarge's CD and it is good music. Nice artwork on the CD jacket too.

Sarge posts a lot on my players' page. He is one of us who is carrying the fire from one generation to the next.

Sarge's CD's- all of them- have stuff you may remember and not even realize! He has an encyclopedic rep of songs taken from the fabric of midwestern culture. Kind of a melting pot from different places.
Sarge does everything to the hilt. I'm proud to call him my friend.
