I would just like to say a public thank you to Greg Heumann and to recommend his services to anyone who has never done (or is thinking of doing) business with him.

I recently bought a Shure 520 mic shell from Greg. He was extremely helpful and communicative during the whole process. He began by sending me a picture of all the shells and a description of them, their collectability status and their physical condition along with a price for each and a price for each with any work needed (if I wanted it doing).

I chose my mic shell and Greg then sent me a Paypal invoice which I paid immediately. Greg immediately sent me back an email saying he was shipping out the shell to me that day.

Now I'm in the UK so it took a few days to arrive which is normal. When it did arrive it was safely packaged in a few layers of bubble wrap so as to avoid any damage in transit.

Upon opening it I found that Greg had underplayed the condition of the shell. It was in almost mint condition. I put an NOS CM 99A86 (made in USA) element in it. Wow it sounds great, a real tonal beauty of a mic.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy from Greg again and would happily recommend him to anybody.

PS: I should also mention that I bought one of his inline volume controls a few years ago and that is a great product as many people are already aware.

@Kingley - Thanks! I'm glad you're happy.

@Nick - cracked me up. No plans to move to HH - but I am sure impressed with the quality of talent they've hired. It is wonderful that they've put together a team of so many true harp experts - it says a lot about them.

Greg fixed up one of the crappiest JT-30's that I've ever seen for me. I bought it on ebay and was listed in good condition. Photos were taken a proper angles to make things look as good as possible. The previous owner had tried to remove the screw on connector with a vise. There had been a hole gouged in the mic stand hole. The hammer tone finish was nasty. Of course, the original element was completely dead.

Greg cleaned up the mic. He installed a volume control in the mic stand hole. He installed a new screw on connector. He also put a nice Shure controlled magnetic element in it. He turned a total turd of a shell into a mic that is a "go to" mic.

He does nice work. Additionally, I've played through a multitude of his microphones. Every single one of them has been nothing short of excellent. His wood mics are a piece of usable art.

Plus, he's easy to deal with and he's a solid harp player to boot.

I could take an after photo, but I didn't think about shooting a before shot. I was not happy with the seller on ebay and I hadn't thought about writing a review of Greg's work.

Let's just say, it was pretty trashed.

Zack - I have before and after shots of several jobs, although not that one. Was there something specific you were looking for?
