Received late word last night that the regular starting frontman was running a little late, so to get things started, I took over.
The place was filled, as has been the case recently. Normally, we begin with something recognizable and mid-tempo. "Baby, What You Want Me to Do?" is an example. I figured to do something different, so I called out "Mellow Down Easy". Instead of coming right out of the box, I let the rhythm section establish and then did a slow build. It sounded kinda like the Doors lead-in to "Break On Through".
The guitar then did this weird counter that had that Bloomfield quality.

It sounded laconic, moody, and totally cool. Rather than break up this groove, I came in with a simple "2, 2,, 2, - 2, 2,, 1,~1,, and repeat. The sax player joined in. Very jazzy, but unusual.

LJS, I had my first official get-together fronting my blues combo last night, and we jammed this...I just told the guitar player to stay on the one, and he came up with a fitting Bloomfield-esque riff, and we 'brought it down' and 'built it up', all by me giving them the palm-down signals, moving my arm up or down...I went from near-whisper to belting, and got some good feel of my new HarpAttack pedal...I was in heaven. Funny it was the same song, too!
