I have found an older Jt-30 that I am thinking about buying my only hesitation right now is the how the cord connects to the body. In almost all jt-30's I see online there is come kind of screw on adapter that, well.... screws on to the the bottom of the mic. On this one, however ,the cord appears to go directly into the bottom of the mic where it seeps to be protected by a spring kind of thing that would keep the cord from fraying or crimping. This wouldn't be a problem but I would like to add an inline volume control that would screw on the the base of the mic. (not happinin' if the cord is permanently connected) What to do?
Does anybody know if the cord on the older models were permanently connected?
If so, do you think this mic could be modified by a mic guy like Ron to accept the screw on kind of connection?
Im thinking of going for it but would want to make sure this is what I really want before I lay down the big $.

The cord would be removed and a screw on connector installed. You also could have a volume knob installed in the hole in front of that(where the mic stand orig. went)or buy an inline volume devise from Greg Huemann at Blows Me Away Productions.Thats around $80. I believe, but can be used on any screw on connector mic that doesn,t have a volume pot.I use mine on a JT 30.a chopped Commando and also a Turner BX.Weigh out the difference in cost, but I do like the inliner, varied uses.

i personally like an onboard vol pot ie in the shell. greg did one for me about a year ago and it's one of my all time favorite mics. and there's really no need to change the cable if you install a volume pot in the shell, it's a matter of just wiring the pot in line.
the less stuff i have hanging off the mic connector the better i like it.

The wire coming directly out of the mic with the spring on if you use it regularly will come out. Most bullets that you see originally(late 60,s and on) had these and were removed because of this problem.I just recently read an article with Jr.Wells and he stated that he stopped using bullets because of this reason. The wire/spring is held in with a small screw and just wrapping up your mic for storage puts tension on it,hence pulling the wire out leaving the thin leads to the elememt exposed eventually.Been there, did that, replaced it.Beside the fact that its so much easier to store in your gear box without a wire connected to it.

I'm sure Greg Heumann would fit an screw on connector for you at a reasonable price and the bonus is you would know it's been done properly.
Personally I don't like an in-shell volume control. I prefer an on/off switch. If I was using a volume control (I don't use them these days) I'd use a screw on one like the one Greg makes.
