I read the sad news the other day. He was a great old school outlaw country song writer. I saw him live here a in 2011 at the Rose Bowl Tavern in Urbana, IL.



Given his earlier lifestyle I would say he had a good run to make it this far. Still, it is sad to see him and others of his era pass.

My wife & I saw Billy Joe just up the PCH at Don the Beachcombers five or so years ago. A very funky Polynesian joint, had great bands but is now closed. And Billy Joe was terrific. At one point he shouted - I’m a poet, goddammit!

Yes he was. RIP.

He wrote the first outlaw country album. Saw him and his son Eddie in Nashville. What a fiery combo.
