Just got my solost pro in the mail and noticed that the holes aren't oval at all. the outside edges are painted brown in a oval shape to blend in with the back of the comb inside the harmonica creating the 'illusion' that they're oval. the sides on each comb tooth are rounded slightly which you can see from a birds eye view angle but the holes are as straight as any other harp. Can anyone shed some light on why this is?

Well, I have no soloist just a 1847... There the corners of the tines are actually rounded off in a oval manner.

Yeah that's what I mean, they're rounded off, rather than being in a straight square shape, but if you look straight into the harmonica hole you can see it isnt oval shaped, there is brown paint on the edge curving in an oval shape...

I don't think it has any importance how hole is in the inside. It is rather about playing comfort at the direct contact with the lips. And there as far as I can tell they're rounded off in an oval shape (i.e. a little more in the middle). ---------- germanharpist on YT. =;-) - Resonance is KEY!

It's still odd that what the company have claimed wasn't actually what it was

I just bought a Seydel Favorite. It's in the mail at the moment but I'm super excited for it's arrival. I don't really know too much about Seydels to really chime in on the whole oval thing but I'm excited so I just thought I'd let you know! Dog Face- o u t.

i got a solist pro last week in A and i gotta say i really liked the harp - the tone was bang on and it felt great in the hand.
only problem was that my harp had some wonky 2 draw and 3 draw going on. both were super flat sounding and sounded muffled or choked at best.
i thought i'd pop it open and try gapping those reeds. ya, totally ruined it. LOL! gotta get me that dvd... :)

p.s. i'm on the fence on the wider hole spacing that seydel harps have. i know it's only a fractional difference but it always takes me a bit to adjust to playing seydel harps... i guess if all my harps were the same it wouldn't matter at all...

The reason for that shape is to get rid of sharp edges. Every manufacturer has different hole sizes and spacing but if you keep your embouchure relaxed and flexible, you should be easily able to develop the muscle memory to adapt. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

I've had no trouble adapting to or adjusting anything to these seydel harps, i think they play great. Does anyone elses soloist pro have brown paint on the comb tines?

thanks bbq --
no question you're right. the problem comes when you only have one seydel harp and it's the only one with the wider spacing. of course with practice you'll get it but you sure do notice the difference!

Are they advertising them as oval anywhere? In the german description it deasn't say anything like it. And yes, they are great harps. They are my favorites. I actually prefer them over the 1847 (I like the 1847 covers tho).

CJames, thats not brown paint. The combs are laser cut and what you see are burn marks.
