Zack put in a terrific performance last night, too. Very hip stuff! Jason would be proud of that third or fourth song. Overblown arpeggios kill me, but I swear that song's head had a couple. You've got good stage presence and you convey a sense of strength in the way you hold the harp and mic. I was fairly far from the stage, but I could also hear the edge of the amped harp over the rest of the mix, which is good; it wasn't muted, tonally, as sometimes happens. Nice work!

I didn't see Devon Tom perform, but I did see a few of the finalists, including Cincinnati pianist Cheryl Renee and her band (best live blues I've heard in a long time...much better than anything of hers on YouTube), Jimi Lee (go baby!), and Bill "Howl-N-Madd" Perry, who hails from Abbeville, MS, about 10 miles up the road from me, and who I spoke with at length after his set about the Hill Country Harmonica event. He's in! I'm still working on that and expect to have major news by the end of this week...

Good luck to all entrants.

Adam you were there! I believe you're speaking of the second song. No overblows in the head, lots of bends. We are doing tritones chromatically. Thank you so much for coming and letting people know!

Adam, by the way I wasn't amped, it was the HarpAttack, cool huh? There may have been some overblow arpeggios but the tritone piece didn't. Again, thank you!

Well there you have it: a blind test. I was too far from the stage to see what Zack was playing through. But I heard the harp, I heard it cut through, it had a solid sound with the right high midrange edge.

Sounds like the HarpAttack should be something every harp player carries in the gig bag, doesn't it?

i got interested after reading what you guys said about the harp attack pedal,So i checked out there website its only 163$ that would be a nice priced alternative to trying to get a good harp amp.how Do you feel about the pedal compared to one of these custom harp amps ZackPomerleau
if i read right it said you could use it to turn a big ol solid state amp that was really good for only guitars into a good harp amp.Im allways looking to save some money, and was wondering how the 2 compared in performance per buck? thanks

I will get videos up. Hobostubs, it compares to a small HarpGear. It sounds like a little champ, and through an amp it makes anything sound good pretty much. Through the P.A. it rocks, too.

Congrats Zackster for making it to Memphis and playing at B.B. Kings! Man, I tried to watch Friday, but the stream went down about midway thru the band before you, and they put their 'default' video up. I was peeved, but I'm glad to hear it went well for you and Adam was in attendance! Hey Zack, I got a new prototype Harp Attack from Randy last weekend, with a less-microphonic power tube and an improved tone control-vids coming soon. Yes Adam, it's a highly-recommended pedal. Worked out great for Zack, with having to fly and not having to transport a heavy, delicate tube amp, and STILL having good sound at his disposal. There's another pedal which lots of folks would be equally happy with sans amp, and that's his Harp Break pedal. The big difference is no tube, but wow, what a sound when you run right into a p.a.! Either will also work as dialable distortion when used with a tube amp, in case the amp won't 'dirty' up enough for your taste.

Sorry i ve ben droolin over your peddal and asking questions on it and i for got to say congrats,to your show,I bet it was a good one with such talent in crowed being entertained,But your post has created a longing for one of those harp attack peddals, ive spent about the same on 2 cheap amps that i still havent really tested, when i could have gotten the pedal,Im learning about better choices i should have made this last year because of this forum,For example i spent 70$ bucks on a set of swans as my 1st harps cause they were a set,And a year later ive come to the conclusion, that for about 130$ i could of got a set of susuki bluesmasters, man i should have read more, thats 2 not so good choices i could of had a harp attack and the susukis for the smae price of the others.all well, live and learn, but now i want a harp attack, with out the heart attack.congrats again on your show.

Yeah, it did suck, bled all over the place, but it wasn't a big deal. Puncture wound from the canines, no ripping so no stitches. I'm good but now I have to figure out how to rehab my dog. BUDHA???

Todd, I am going to make a post. Saw lots of good bands, met Jay Gaunt, amazing food, and lots of museums. One of my favorite parts was going to the Lorraine Motel, which was where Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated.

Yes, we went to Sun also. I've been to Graceland. I played a piano in Sun that supposedly Jerry Lee Lewis played.

Zack, thanks for the good wishes. It was great meeting you and Jay and hearing you both play. I played the best I could in the final but didn't win. I knew I played the best I could and that's all you can do, after that it's a crapshoot that belongs to the judges. Orpheum Theater is a beautiful venue. Jimi Lee also played well and was a nice, friendly guy.
