I'm glad to see Watermelon Slim's name on this forum. He seems to be underrated as a harp player. I've got all his albums. My dad and I went to see him in Clarksdale last year. It was the first time my dad had been in a blues club (he's 70 years old). ---------- Ozark Rich
Show was at the Ground Zero Blues Club and was great! He played a lot more harp than is representative of his albums (none of the acoustic stuff though). Pinetop Perkins was a surprise guest and played a couple numbers. He performed for 3 1/2-4 hours with a break in between.
My dad enjoyed himself. He took up harp after retirement but isn't that serious about it. he's given me several harps that he's bought on ebay.
We arrived early and went through the Delta Blues Museum and ate dinner at the club (good food).
I have a picture of the harp he signed for me (a Delta Blues Museum souvenir harp) on my Facebook page in the "Signed Harps" album.
Im jelous. Slim very rarely comes to the U.K. i would love to see him live.
@OzarkRich Ive just seen your signed harps album, Very cool.
I should keep a couple of Marine Bands and a Sharpie to one side in case i run into anyone cool. Not much chance living this side of the pond:( ----------

Detroit Junior wrote this tune. He was a fabulous piano who worked with Howlin' Wolf for a number of years. Albert King made a killer and most likely the definitive recording of this song.
Joe - as usual your depth of blues knowledge bubbles up and humbles me. Have you heard the Barrelhouse Chuck version? Its pretty good. Kind of fun to go to iTunes and type in a title like this - a LOT of people have done the tune. Not as many as show for "got my mojo working" though... ---------- /Greg
Watermelon Slim used to play small shows around here quite a lot. He is a good harp player, not super flashy or technical, but it is exactly what his style of music needs. Plus, he is a very good entertainer... likes to wander the crowd with his harp and his wireless. Look up his biography on the net if you have not, interesting life story...
Yeah, a member of MENSA with a couple degrees under his belt, farming watermelons! Crazy stuff. I really like his sound. Good tongue-in-cheek lyrics, too. ---------- Todd L. Greene, V.P.
Greg - Yes, I've heard it before. It's on a CD called, "Got My Eyes On You". Kim Wilson plays some really nice harp on that CD. His playing on Floyd's Blues is killer. (Snooky Pryor played on the original by Floyd Jones.) My favorite track on that CD is Chuck's tribute to Big Moose Walker entitled, "The Bright Sounds of Big Moose". No harp on it, but the organ and guitar work is classic Chicago Blues.
Chuck's a bad ass keyboard player in the old school tradition. He learned from guys like Big Moose, Pinetop Perkins, Sunnyland and Little Brother Montgomery. If you have some time to kill, check out the photos on his website. They are killer. He's a terrific guy, too.

Down, Phogi. Don't get all Lars Ulrich-y on us. I can graciously say 'no thank you' to Stash, as I will buy them myself. ---------- Todd L. Greene, V.P.
