"Goodbye Jimmy Reed" is an appropriately titled 12 bar blues from Bob Dylan's new album. Naturally, it's a Jimmy Reed shuffle.

Bob Dylan remains a hell of a songwriter.

Two of my favorites, what's not to like! I would have liked Bob to throw some more harp in there, it was minimal to say the least. But I'm with Mirco here, Bob is one of our very best songwriters of the era.

Dylan will always be a mediocre harmonica player, but that's part of the package of this odd and often brilliant fellow we call Dylan. It's part of his charm, and the harmonica provides an element of rootedness, a foot on the ground, as the lyrics frequently get abstract and confusing. That said, the album Rough and Rowdy Ways is one of the best Dylan records of his career. I say as someone who has written extensively on the matter of Dylan being over rated and used up. Rough and Rowdy Ways qualifies as a messy, over long masterpiece. It is flawed, and I cannot stop listening to it.
