Well we've been here in Ohio for just a bit over 3 weeks and it's not working out. The biggest issue is one we don't have a solution to and that's bugs. Something we didn't know when I took this job was that the midges hatch out very thick every spring and stay all summer. Clouds of them roam around partying and having reproduction parties all over the place. Then come the Mayflies.
Imagine sucking a gooey bug into your harp- or your mouth- while you're gigging on a patio someplace. Not to mention them getting on a pricey guitar, your p.a. head and speakers, and amps. With things being the way they are it looks like most places at least here are doing outdoor seating for patrons, so to us that rules out playing outdoors. A shame because there are a few dozen possibilities between Marblehead, Port Clinton, and the islands on the lake close by. And more in Sandusky.
I'm going to miss doing promo here and spreading some blues and so forth. Not to mention the huge fishing opportunities here.

I took a job right on the Mississippi River, in Vidalia Louisiana. It looks to be a better work gig with no giant bug hatches to mess with so much. We'll be nearby Natchez Mississippi too, a hopping place from what I've heard. Clarksdale MS is a few hours north and Zachary La, home of Teddy's Juke Joint, is an hour and a half south. A lot of Blues Trail locations are not far away so we can do some blues tourist stuff as we have time too.

Tomorrow morning we will finish hitching the travel trailer up and get going south, a bit over 1000 miles. A song I wrote and we put on the last CD is titled Blues Gypsies. That's us!

Day 1 was somewhere Kentucky. Day 2, Batesville MS. Tomorrow we plan to take part of the Natchez Trace Parkway on the way to the job.

In Mississippi you'll see where Adam got his handle from because the Kudzu grows over everything!

@ snow- The bug has interrupted that part but I think we'll get some action before long.
We started planning long before we hit the highway. It all depends on your level of wanderlust. And a workable plan.

Last 2 evenings we've gone over to Natchez, across the river, and busked near the river overlook. Friday I took my usual Manji set which worked pretty well. Jo played her D'Angelico hollow body. This eve I put 2 Seydels, a MB custom, and a few other harps together and used them instead. Jo had her Gibson acoustic.
Sold a CD, made a few tips, spread a bit of joy I think.
It was hot but hey, it's the delta in the summer! We had a great time. Storm coming in over the next few days so busking is on hold, but this coming week we plan to talk to some venues about gigs.
I think we're here for the summer!
