Hi Folks,

Sorry I couldn't find a Bluegrass harmonica forum so I'm posting here :)

Here is a version of Blackberry Blossom I recorded with a Harmo Polar Super Country tuned harmonica

Here's a folk harmonica forum.

The banjo pretty much drowns out your harmonica, but from what I could hear, it was excellent playing.

Sounds good! I could hear the harp above the banjo, although banjo is famous for drowning out everything.
Bluegrass tempo, but no solo.
Just for fun, here is a version by David Naiditch on chromatic harmonica with Pat Cloud on banjo--a fine player indeed.

wow------really cool.
great playing---I loved the fact u played the entire harp---not just holes 1-6. Yr playing really fit the song and sounded great.
I love that bluegrass feel---very happy.

Now u got my curiosity. Where can I find the note layout for the harp? Couldn't find on line.
thanks

So ,
It looks like the only change in second pos is the raised 5 and 9 draw. So u get the major7 on 5 n 9 draw. U have to bend in second pos to get the b7. Is that right?

If so Im 'double impressed' by Davids playing. It sounded so smooth, from low end to high end. I thought it was one of those 'reverse tunings'. ie from 7- 10 the low notes on top, high notes on bottom. giving u normal draw bends on 7-10.

This is proof that its worth learning a smooth transition from 1-6 to 7-10. No break or noticeable change.

I worked on that for years, so much so that my traditional blues playing suffered. I love that LW,Kim Wilson, Rick Estrin sound. I just like to change from that "chorus form" deal into ascending, descending runs. Its more like a guitar player does, which works well when following a guitar lead.

I know its not the "blues" but its a great example of playing the entire harmonica instrument. Not just the blues harp "1-6"

Im inspired thanks again

Hi Snowman,

Well I'm happy If I could motivate and inspire you :)
Just FYI I made lessons about this tune available on harmonicaschool.com where I break it down at slower speed in small phrases and discuss the Super Country tuning.

You're right about the b7 and the Major 7.

I also actually just posted a new version of the same tune.
This is the long version this time longer and faster that I played on a Harmo custom Shop harmonica brass comb, aluminum covers.

Enjoy ;)
