Hey everyone! New guy here, young and self taught. I've been playing for a few months now and I'm wanting to learn "simple man" by Lynyrd skynyrd. More specifically how it is played in the video below, I've done my best to try and replicate it but cant seem to get far at all. Is there anyone out there with better ears than me that may be able to tell what key it is being played in? And possibly dissect the first bit of the video into tabs I can rehearse.
Cheers!

Hi and welcome.Do you have a G harp because that is what the guy is playing and it would be best for you to play along with.

The simplified opening phrase is -4+5-5, -6/-6*-5-4+4,-6/-6*-5-4, +3+4+3+4-4-4.

The -6/-6* bit is a 6 draw slid down to a 6 draw bend.

If you want to copy him exactly here he does a -6*/-6/-6* which is a short 6 draw bend scooped up to a 6 draw and then slid down to a 6 draw bend. At the end of the phrase on the last 2 notes he also does the same type of thing but on the 4 draw i.e -4*/-4, -4*/-4 where he does that little scooped bend but if you play two simple draw noes on 4 as shown on the top tab it will sound fine.

Another thing that might be helpful is to slow down the audio to make it easier to learn the notes. to do this on youtube press the cog on the top right of the video and a drop down panel will appear where you can change the playback speed of the video to 3/4 , half or quarter speed. Good luck.
