I'm a sap for Sarah Vaughan generally, and particularly whenever her performance of Misty from the '64 concert in Stockholm comes on, i get totally drawn in and usually end up watching jazz videos for the rest of the evening.
ive been aware of my weakness for this tune for some time, but ive only recently become aware of Jerry Portnoy's treatment of it.
I might start there. Jerry is using an Ab harp on the Home Run Hitter recording.
i was putting this 270 together and chatting to the owner, who asked me if I'd heard Walter Horton's version of Misty. I haven't, nor have i been able to find it.

I really like Jerrys version. I found a tab for it last year and worked on it for quite a while. Really made me improve my pitch on the lower bent notes and improved my blow bends on 8and 9. Still play it for practice 2 or 3 times a week.
My man confirmed he was thinking of George Smith. Yah, Cotton, I’ve been playing along with Jerry today. I had to slow him down a little when he jumped the tempo for the chorus. That vibrato he pulls out on the held and bent 9blow is something to which I can aspire but I’ve pretty much got the rest into a form I can practice now. It helps to be familiar with the melody! I’ll definitely work on this. When I put the harp down for a few minutes, my wife calls out Hey! What happened to the music? Gotta love that girl.
