I'm a 100% with you Sundancer, we lost our 14 year old girl Charlie to renal failure 5 weeks ago.
We loved her so much.
Thanks for posting the link.

my computer doesn't show reason why jbone doesn't care much for dogs.

To John MG - to help you with your loss, I recommend watching "All Dogs Go to Heaven" animated film from the 80's.

Saw it for the first time 2 nights ago - brilliant animation - much better than what they do these days, IMO...and I cried like a baby at the end!

Hi Sundancer, my wife loved the Curtis Salgado song. Thanks again for posting the link. Brilliant.

Hi Iceman, Serendipity once again has intervened.
A brief conversation between my wife and her physio with news of one of her friends dogs having just had a litter of puppies has led to another adventure. This time with an 8 week old puppy!
We've never had a puppy before, all of our previous dogs have been rescue dogs.

So we've opened up our hearts again to Raffy!

I'm in love again!

Good on for taking on a puppy John MG. you now what what you’ll be doing for the next 10-15 years, besides playing the harp.

I had a link to an msn video of a bulldog howling to a guy playing harp, but it just would not load, so I tried to delete the whole thread. Did not succeed I guess!
I risk unpopularity here but I am not a dog person. Seen many bad things related to irresponsible humans with dangerous canines not in control.
I also find it very ironic that we as the top of the food chain have been relegated to scooping up canine poop several times a day, not to mention feeding them.

Jbone - as a travelling man & artist, you’ve done yourself a grave disservice if you haven’t read Travels With Charlie: In Search of America by John Steinbeck. Give it a go and see if you still feel the same about dogs.

@jbone......you hit the nail on the head about irresponsible humans......for every mean and aggressive dog you have irresponsible owner......all the vets suffering from PTSD can benefit from therapy from our 4 legged friends

@Sundancer, Yes I have read that. Steinbeck was a great friend and master to his pet. In my travels I've seen dogs attack smaller animals and kill them, attack humans and injure them, and humans intentionally put their dogs into fights at public parks.
Dogs and the core are pack hunters and they revert pretty quickly sometimes. My last was a small chow that refused to submit to a bigger dog and had a patch of flesh the size of a tea saucer torn from her neck. In her own yard.
Add to that dogs which occasionally kill their owners, or toddlers, just because they still have that instinct.

I don't want to belabor the point. To me dogs have been bred past usefulness in a lot of cases. It's a mixed bag I know. But to me the pluses outweigh the benefits.

So . . . I guess when it comes to dogs, "music and travel don't necessarily destroy prejudice."

I've spent 50+ of my 60 years in the company of dogs . . . have volunteered in shelters and taken in many, many rescues. I can say without any hesitation that dogs very frequently exhibit far more humanity than humans.

Great song by Salgado. Thanks to Sundancer for the link

Fact: There’s no such thing as a bad dog. Just crap owners.

I’d write more but my beloved Yorkie-poo & I are headed for our daily beach walk. With a Bb harmonica to serenade the homeless cats. Happy Holidays!

Well . . . there are facts, and then there is anecdotal evidence and confirmation bias.

A quick Google search will provide the latest scientific studies on canine intelligence, empathy, and emotion. Those results hold more weight as being factual, to me, than a few instances of personal observation.

But . . . to each his own. People generally believe what they want.

I accept easily that there are good aspects to canine friends. And with that in mind I totally see Groyster's point.

For me personally my lifestyle and needs don't include a dog at this time.
The point of the post was more about how goofy dogs can be.

I prefer Dogs n kids over adults-their honest, spontaneous and entertaining.

My "Rosa---Rosarita" is buried in the woods where I use to run with her. The first couple years after losing her, I would snoeshoe in, to where she rests, to visit.

Generally speaking most people that dont' like dogs and or kids--I tend to not get along with.
Most of friends are like me---when a dog walks by, I'll go out of my way to say "Hey Buddy"

I'm with Curtiss Salgado as well.

Each their own. Hope you don't have to witness a pet of yours or a loved one mauled by a dog that has no restraints placed on it.

I've had and loved dogs in my life. I have seen a disturbing trend among certain dog owners in recent years. People who value their ill behaved pets over other humans. You may not have read or heard the news about dogs attacking people- including toddlers and even infants. If you have not then you may be living a very protected life.
Even something as simple as playing at a farmers market is fraught with hazards these days. Ever had a dog lift his leg on your harp case? I have. Had a dog bite your wife, because it was on a long lead and not being watched? I have.

So if you own a dog more power to you. I hope you are a responsible owner.

From dogs to guns in one topic stream! Wow. It’s as if we’re writing a country song. What’s the next verse about? Mama or pick-up trucks?

“She left me. Took the truck, the dog, and my gun. Guess I’m moving back in with mama.”

Which brings me to country harp. I truly dig Charlie McCoy. He was shown numerous times in the Country Music series by Ken Burns on PBS and represented brilliantly. Very inspiring. And made me dig deep to get that -3’’ sounding better.

I may have acted rashly posting my opinion. It did have harp content but I was not expecting to see as much reaction as I did.

If you love something and I don't, we still have much in common.
