Hi there.

Iam looking to get a delay pedal and was seeing if anyone could recomend a decent one. I like the look of the the lone wolf but its a bit pricey. Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Thank

I recommend the DanEcho if you're looking for delay only. There are other pedals that do more. If you're looking to keep it simple, DanEcho is it.

I have Lone wolf----one thing for sure [once I got use to slapback----I fell naked w/out it---boogie bassline and backbeats sound great with slapback
There many inexpensive ones but I like the Lone wolf--its set for the frequencies of the harp and works great
good luck on whichever

I have a couple Lone Wolf pedals but I use a Dano for delay. I recommend a power wart, as they eat batteries. Money well spent is my take.

I have the lone wolf version 1.
I bought it in 2009. I wore the switch out, Randy repaired it under warranty in 2018. In fact, they put an entirely new unit into my original enclosure. I’m expecting to get another 10 years from it. I paid $160.
Pretty good company. There are cheaper products for sure.

I've used a BBE Two Timer for a while and it works great. Look at the MXR and TC Electronics too. Lots of delay out there that work great and don't break the bank.

Yes, those are all popular choices. I think Rick “Coyote” Davis imports one which he sells under the ‘Memphis Blues’ trade name quite cheaply too.
the old Boss DD2 and DD3 and probably the DD7 are all tried and trusted. I don’t hear much about them lately but my friend uses a DD3 which does what he wants.

The Boss DM 2W (Waza reissue) I was hearing good things about but not for a while now. Might be expensive for the Boss stuff in the LW league. I have another friend who’s a big fan of the DM2 over everything else.
Personally I reckon the delay probably isn’t super critical for me as a developing player so I’m happy just to have one that works.

I have a Dan Echo for a long time (close to 20 years), and don't have complaints. The Boss models SuperBee mentioned were the most used (I saw Piazza, Gary Smith, and heard William Clarke and Jason Ricci used them) before some harp designed models. There's a Joyo models that seems a good alternative for the price, and even a modeling effect such Digitech that has some of most famous models. I do have a Digitech but never used it on stage, but for home recording it does the job.

I have a Behringer VD400 analog delay pedal which I love. About $30 on Amazon. 9v or battery use.

MXR Carbon Copy delay is solid and you can find good deals on used ones. If you want something with a little more diversity the EHX Canyon has a lot packed into a little package.

I'd suggest buying the cheapest secondhand delay pedal you can find. I wouldn't worry about what brand it is. That way you're not laying out lots of money and can see whether a delay pedal is for you or not. If it is,, then you can always buy a better one down the line.

I second Kingley's advice. I got a used Danelectro PB&J delay for under $15. Sound is great and within a loud band setting, most tonal variance is really hard to decipher anyway.

For something like 60$ I got a Mooer Anaecho. Works just fine in a basic way and it can give you a desired slapback effect.
But for roughly 40$ more I´m now owner of a TC Electronic Flashback, and that upens up a minor Delay Universe + a looper. Takes some fiddling though. (Check out Youtube for samples.)

If you are not using delay to create that bouncing repetitive musical line to layer over and over (like Joe Walsh in the James Gang used to do), which would need high quality sound replication, but only for a slap back effect (usually very short and subdued), my experience has told me that the brand isn't important at all (aside from good quality insides)...

Of all the ones listed above, can anyone tell me the REAL differences between them in the actual sonic results? (In other words, the ol' "blindfold test").

LJC, where do you live? I have multiple delay pedals and I would be willing to sell you my DanEcho at a discount, + shipping.

Email me if you're interested. It's "marcgraci" at hotmail.com. Please write something like "delay pedal" in the subject line so I know it's something legitimate and not one of the 400 viagra emails I get a day.

I've been using a Memphis Blues MM Delay

https://www.memphisbluesamps.com/delay

Harp Break> Delay> Mojo Pad

makes this mediocre player sound like a mediocre player with great sound :)

The Memphis delay pedal is $75 vs LW's $175.

Someone gave me a Zoom A1four as a gift. It seems to have been designed for acoustic guitar but it also has patches for other instruments, including harmonica. One patch, "Vintage" comes out nice and gritty and is tweakable. Anyone here using this box?

I probably use Reverb more than delay now, but I’m curious about delay. I know some folks run more than one type so they can have different settings without having to adjust on the fly.
I asked a fellow about the lone wolf version 2 the other day, but no response.
I’m curious if anyone can describe the difference between original LW delay and the version 2

V2 has slightly more treble in it as stated in their website. the original can seem to darken or sound like it slightly diminishes amp output. It is however almost imperceptible. I use the V2.
