Ive just got an Aa and e yesterday. Didnt want to spend to mutch on these keys, my other harps a custom and deluxes. Anyway i like the tone etc but cant beleve how sharp the edges are. Within 2 12 bars i nearly cut my lips to shreds. How can a major company get something so wrong this is basic stuff. Really pist of. Does anyone know how best to round plastic comps of. Cheers loz

Fine grit paper will fix it in next to no time. I’ve never had a sp20 with rough comb. Dunno how many I have. I guess somewhere between 20 and 30, and I’ve seen a lot of others for repairs. But I suppose I haven’t had many brand new ones, so maybe it’s not as rare as I think. Could be a new marketing drive for the Rocket. Jk

I have played Special 20s for a long time, with a brief switch to Lee Oskars in the '90s into the early 2000s. Only on my few more recent SP20 purchases since 2015 (give or take a couple years) have I found sharp plastic corners to be problem. Yes, they can be pretty sharp!
I don't bother with disassembly or seeking to restore a glossy corner after fixing the problem. I gently file the corner a little to round it and then smooth it with fine grit paper. The corners are then matte finished, but who cares? No one can check for a consistent glossy finish while I am playing, and play-ability is usually my focus with harmonicas, not pretty appearance.
I might consider buying a Rocket instead if it were on a really good sale, but I usually go for a Special 20 and just smooth the corners and regap the reeds to my taste. The Special 20, especially when on sale or bought on quantity discount, is a really great playable bargain harp.
If I occasionally buy a customized harp I look for good reed work and not a fancy appearance. It is all about making music to me. ----------

I have to ask Ljc- how are you holding the harp, and how hard are you pressing it to your lips? This for me was an issue long ago with Marine Band- because I was using some force to keep the harp real tight to my mouth and also the tines of the wood comb swelled out. I never had this issue with Sp20. But I learned to use less force to keep a seal between harp and lips especially when sliding up or down the harp. ---------- Music and travel destroy prejudice.

If you do decide you want to fix that, a $5 tub of Mother's Aluminum Polish from Walmart shines them right back up the factory finish in less than 5 minutes.
