I don’t see any customizers offering Rockets with the regular comb . It appears that if they offer a Rocket they utilize a Special 20 comb. Do folks feel there is something wrong with the Rocket comb?
Thanks,
Jay

I personally like the Rocket comb and there’s certainly nothing wrong with it in terms of quality compared the Sp20. It does have a different feel though, mainly thanks to the chamfered tines.
I think this bugs people who are used to the Sp20.
To me, a Rocket on Sp20 comb could equally be described as a Sp20 with Rocket covers. Maybe that’s the way forward for Hohner with these harps. You could have one of 4 combinations. They would love that headache I’m sure.

One possible explanation is that The Rocket costs more for the customizers to purchase - even at Dealer prices. They use identical reed plates, so it is not like you're getting better reed plates with the Rocket. The covers are opened at the back, but it is easy to modify Special 20 covers to open them up like the Rocket. It could be an effort to keep their cost down and pass the savings on to the customer. In my case, I make custom combs so I rarely build a custom harp on a stock comb.

Just my 2 cents.

I do it all he time. Some of my customers prefer the rocket, some prefer the Special 20. If you want a custom comb, you should by a special 20, because the reedplates are the same, unless you want the side vents. The bottom line is that the Rocket with stock comb, customized is about $20 more that the Special 20. So, this is probably a good place to start a discussion of Special 20s vs Rockets, and who like what.
