You have 29 prewar MBs in boxes? Carried around in Johnny Walker bags!?! An embarrassment of riches I’d say.

I had/have one of those bags but I don’t know where it is. I bought a mic and it arrived in a crown royal bag. I kept the bag on the go as a mic cover for a long time.

I used to carry my harps in a flour sack but over time i found it too inconvenient, sorting them out every time. I fitted an old briefcase to hold them, laid out so it was easy to lay my hand on the one I needed at a moment’s notice.

I’m a couple blocks further on down the street since then and I can’t see going back to using a sack in the near future.
Maybe in a few years I might not need all this other baggage though.

I keep mics in those. Tweed case and a smaller zipper case for harps. Plus a belt but I don't like it at all.

I bought toweling face washers, fold them in four and then stitch round two edges. Lovely soft padded bags for harps and not too expensive!

For what I've spent on harps I have tried to keep them safe and unblemished for like 25 years now. Originally I had a felt bag I made but then outfitted a cigar box with felt and brass findings. Later I made a couple of cases from cheap briefcases. In recent years I've gotten 2 harp cases, one black and one tweed. The black one is now for mics and cables and the tweed is for harps.
It's worth a little $$ to me to keep my babies safe.

@jbone......I very much understand your concern for protection......I have 3 guitars that stay in the case when not in use.....I own an insane amount of harps......the cloth bags with strings for closing allow me to keep my harps with me at all times.....

I use the Seydel belt bags for my diatonics (different bag for keyed chromatics). The bags are carried in an old cleaned out horn case, including backup diatonic harps for gigs, low harps, a set of 8 keyed chromatics, an Ultimate 58 mic and cable, music light, and lyric/chord sheets in a notebook. Sometimes I will add my CM Brown Biscuit and a cable.

I can just carry one belt bag if not needing backups for a gig. I just lift it out of the horn case and zip it closed. The belt bags say they hold 12 harps, but you can add another at each end making 14. All the harps are in order of the circle of fifths with High G and Low F at the ends. They are organized and I am able to pick up any desired key of harp without searching or opening boxes. I gave up the "loose carry" in a bag approach long ago.

I DO use Blanton's whiskey bags for some of my mics. The soft bags don't take up as much space as the vinyl mic bags, though the soft bags are not water resistant like the vinyl mic bags. But the soft whiskey bottle bags are cool and I have always liked the way the Crown Royal bags look.

I don't drink Crown Royal though, but Blanton's??? YES!!!!!

I have not had a drink in 32+ years, actually before I began the music journey for real I left drink and drugs behind. But Crown Royal bags have always been a cool idea to me! Seeing them at yard sales or flea markets I have bought several and they do make nice mic bags.

I have never bought a bottle of CR; I may have seen it once but not sure. I don’t quite get the idea of the bag. They sell a bottle in a bag? Why? I just don’t understand what is the idea behind that.
I have bought Blanton’s whiskey a couple times. I don’t recall a bag though. Kind of a fancy bottle and cap but I don’t think there was a bag.
What’s with the bag? Just a gimmick or is there some practical rationale behind it?

A gimmick I think. The royal purple velvet is a unique attraction.

If you want crown royal bags see if you can get them at yard sales etc. If you want to drink whiskey, Bird Dog Peach Whiskey is the one to drink!!!!

Bird dog whisky, it comes in several flavors, but they're all too sweet for me, can be mixed 50/50 with regular bourbon and its pretty good.
Also comes in a bag, at my liquor store that's a brown paper sack, though I don't carry my harps in it, could be a good gimmick.

I used a shaving kit for a long time for harps and a Royal Crown bag for my mic - keeping the RC bag in the shaving kit when it would fit. I switched to a case with cutout foam when Hal Iwan was producing them mostly so I didn't have to dig around for harps - and too hard to see the keys in a dark club. The RC bag is in the trunk of my car with a new/old mic in it (4 months so far), waiting to be re-powdercoated and a working element installed. So the bag is still in use 30 years later.
