I was researching harp players and found this video. She plays a couple of short solos in the first song. You learn something every day.

Oops, forgot to put the link.

Loved the video.

"Sounds of Silence" is one of my favorite songs!

Not too bad an effort for harp in the hands of a vocalist not known for playing harp! How it was used added a different sound to the music, fulfilling its role.

The instrument can still contribute positively to a musical performance even when used simply and not used to the extent of its capacity in the hands of a good player.

I have heard far worse by people who play some and should know better...

Ms McBride has heard me play harp. This has absolutely no relevance to this thread, but it's cool to me.

Many years ago, on a Halloween evening in Ventura, CA myself and a friend were downtown busking for fun more than anything in the bucket. Anybody that's ever walked in the downtown area by the Mission knows it's a perfect place for it.

A woman and two small children wearing their Trick or Treat costumes walked past with a curious entourage of titillated tourists following but acting fairly respectful to a mother herding her kids towards the local neighborhoods.

They all paused at our little setup and took it in for a short listen. The woman at the lead of this group grooved for a bit and she and I made brief eye contact, she smiled approvingly, and then they all moved on.

A few minutes later a couple that I recognized as being part of that meandering cluster came back our way and paused at us again. When we stopped they engaged us in a chat and told us that Ms McBride was performing at the Ventura Theater in a couple of hours. Her kids traveled with her on her tour bus and since it was Halloween, she was taking them out to be kids.

When people recognized her she was gracious, but asked them if they could leave them to do their trick or treating. Once they began to leave the downtown grid of streets into the neighborhood people backed off and let them alone.

Anyway, Martina McBride was in my audience for about half a minute
