As many of you know, Jason is back touring with his band this winter / spring, and is in top form.We went to (but did not record) this show at the Sanford, Florida's excellent blues venue, The Alley on January 18th. Mooncat fans will enjoy this well-recorded show, which is available in FLAC, Ogg Vorbis and MP3 under Creative Commons license.

If you get a chance to see Jason on his current rounds, heartily recommend making the effort.

Edited: Apparently the direct link that displays in my browser (https://archive.org/details/jr2019-01-18.SP_CMC_8.16bit) is not hot linkable, and requires a "/" at the end. Sorry about that. Should work now.

One minor correction. It is not New Blood. It is The Bad Kind. But thanks for posting.

Tom - I am not calling it New Blood. The Internet Archive site database does....probably as that was the original identity for the artist. The recorded files are categorized by the Internet Archive site that way, but the text the person who did the recording / uploading submitted clearly labels it as Bad Kind. It's not my site, or anything I can change. I just linked to the page with the resources. ;-)

Johncn - I realize that. I was just making an observation lest anyone else be confused.

The link is working now, and it's a major treat for Jason fans. The usual superlatives no longer suffice.

Very nice recording. And yes, when I first set up Jason's section on archive.org, it was indeed New Blood. Not sure how to change that, or if that's desirable, from an archive point of view. I'll look into how the archive would prefer to handle it.

Not a bad amateur live recording at all....seems like Jason's voice is heading into Tom Waits territory these days...enjoyed a few of his harmonica solos and got a real kick out of that one that used classical music as a basis - pretty clever.

I didn't like the sound of his OB notes. Have heard him use them more seamlessly in the distant past.

The opening number is the one for me. Jason's acoustic harp sound is much more pleasing to my ear than his amplified one. Which to me often hides the finer points of his playing. I'm also really digging how his musical sensibility has become less frantic and utilises space more these days over simply filling things with a million notes a minute.
