I have 2 crossovers, both in C Major. If I order reed plates for an A Major, and replace those on the C Major. Will it work or are the cover & comb slightly different?

They’ll work fine. Your cover is different but only because it’s marked C 8-)

SuperBee, you are right that they should both fit the long slot comb since both A and C are long slot reed plates.
However, a heads-up to folks about swapping plates on combs:
A few years back when Hohner low F MBD reed plates were available at a reasonable price I tried to install them on the comb of a D Crossover that needed a reed replacement. When it was assembled I found that the blow and draw 1 hole reeds hit the back of the slot and would not sound. I ground the slot on 1 and 2 holes back a little to get more length. I had been unaware that Hohner used different combs for short and long reed slot harps.
If Johan D. were putting A plates on a D comb (instead of a C) it might not work.
I just searched the Hohner C Shop for short slot and long slot Crossover combs it appears that they still do sell both versions and have not settled for just long slot combs.
If anyone is considering swapping plates, remember that long slot combs are apparently used for low Thunderbirds and Crossovers up to and including the key of EDIT: C [NOT Db]. The higher pitched keys of Crossovers above EDIT: C [NOT Db] use short slot combs.
EDIT: SuperBee caught my error, noted below. ----------

Definitely true, and worth mentioning, Doug.
You can swap D plates to a C comb but not the other way, and results may not be optimal with the D to C switch even though there is no impediment to the reed.
This is true for Marine Band, Deluxe, Crossover (and some aftermarket combs for those models). I expect it may be true for Sp20, Rocket and Golden Melody too, but I’d have to check.
The Hohner MS harps I believe have 3 different templates but I’m not as familiar with those as I rarely work on them.

Oh I just noticed one small inaccuracy in your post, Doug. The short slots begin at Db, not D. C is the highest key ‘long slot’

Thanks for catching that error!
On the Hohner site (which I just revisited to be sure of what I had read earlier today) I had seen Db listed as long slot, but when rechecking I saw it was "Low" Db, not Db!
Prior to checking today I had believed that C was the highest long slot, but I was not certain. Turns out I HAD been correct and messed up while trying to be sure.
Thanks again, SuperBee! It was unfortunate that I posted an flawed "heads-up" on this topic.
I am correcting my post to indicate that C is the highest key long slot Crossover. ----------
