I've been really lucky lately with respect to vintage gear. First I found the Bugera Vintage V5 tube amp for $119. I posted earlier about this amp but I can't say enough good things about it. Its a 5W tube amp, with reverb, separate gain and volume, and a built-in attenuator so you can run it at 5W, 1W, or 0.1W. I used it at band practice today with a full band in a rehearsal room and it was plenty loud. I only had it turned halfway up. IDK why more tube amps don't have separate gain and volume controls? It makes it easy to dial in crunch without the amp all the way up!
Now back to the original reason for this post. I picked up a Calrad DM-9 mic at a used music store for $15 today. This thing sounds great! Its a small dynnamic mic, with a hot output, and a bright tone. It drives my amp into breakup easily and sounds fantastic. Its really bright though - had to roll off the tone on my amp to control feedback.
The mic comes with a small (I think 3/8") screw-on connector which is a problem because its hard to find cables or adapters for it. The good news is that the mic is easy to open up, and the screw-on connector threads out easily. The hole is exactly the right size to drop in a 1/4" connector, and there is plenty of room for it. So, with 30 minutes of work, and no drilling or difficult mods, I have a GREAT harp mic with a 1/4" jack on it. I love this mic! Anyone else have one or used one before?
