We are all saddened to have lost Chris.
I never met him, I don’t know his family, only heard him play one time when he opened for John Mayall at the Theatre Royal 8 years ago. I was so impressed; it was one of those events where you re-evaluate all the progress you’d thought you’d made. I think I said something like ‘I give up’, but chose to be inspired to aim higher instead. It was an inspirational performance.

One of my harp repair clients began taking lessons with Chris and I was thinking about how I could manage to do likewise; Melbourne is just an hour-long flight away. Then J told me Chris had cancer and was not expected to survive.

The tributes have been happening for a few months; we all knew this day was coming but it’s still hard to take. I’m really feeling for his friends and especially the family.

He was an important person to so many.

A sad loss for the Australian music community and the harmonica world.

I only saw him play a few times, he was a colossus on stage. Gracious and friendly otherwise, as I found when I shared a meal with him once, the only time I really spoke with him.
