I need to take the outer plates off my Hohner Blues Harps to change the reed plates inside. Do I need an Allen/Hex key to undo the screws on the outer plates and if so, what size key and is it an Imperial or a Metric key? Chris.

It is not an allen wrench. It is a Pozidrive screwdriver. A small Phillips Head screwdriver will work too. ---------- Tom Halchak Blue Moon Harmonicas

If you are not careful, the phillips will round out the holes in the screws. ----------

Allen wrenches and Phillips head screwdrivers will strip the slot that the screwdriver goes into and Pozidriv screws are very delicate screws to begin with, regardless if they're brass or stainless steel. Most of the Hohners until very recently use Pazidriv #1 and all Seydels uses Pozidriv #0 but the very recent stock of Hohners now uses a Pozidriv #0. These screws can also bee easily overtorqued and stripped and so do get over macho and overtighten them EVER!!!!!
If you do use a Phillips, which I do NOT recommend doing, you have to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL or it will ruin them. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Bob is correct! You can use a smaller size Phillip, but you could strip the screws. Harbor Freight you can get a 20-30 piece set with 3 pozi bits for under $10. $2-5 for smaller sets.

I've got the Pozidrive #1 screwdriver and most of my MS screws are stripped anyway. Delicate, they are.

The best quality Pozidriv screwdrivers are made by Wiha and I believe that's the brand that Rockin' Ron's sells now. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

That's why I dumped Hohner MS Series harps. IMO, that's the dumbest idea in the world, using posidrive screws. And it's not like you can just go to a Dollar General store and buy such a tool. I jumped ship on the MS Series and went straight to Suzuki.
