SPAH 2018 was a cornucopia of delights - so many good players, fun jams, classy concerts and workshops. I was a vendor for the first time, an interesting experience. One of the best things about harmonica festivals for the manufacturers and specialist makers like me is that you get instant expert feedback on the new stuff you've created, from a variety of very good players. It quickly lets you know the strong and weak points of a product, very useful.
Two of my favourite modern players tried out a couple of the new gizmos I've come up with recently. Here's Todd Parrott explaining and demonstrating the SlipSlider Mk2:
Filip Jers was more keen on the Overblow Booster, which he says opens up the range of low harps for overbending. Here he is playing a short clip on a Low Eb Manji:
(Excuse the poor sound from my phone; it doesn't do Filip's playing justice, but you get the gist).
Another guy I really enjoyed meeting and playing with was Canadian Roly Platt, who very kindly gave me one of his Harp Wahs. There were some really talented young players there too; one who particularly struck me was Luke Anthony from Las Vegas. Here he is playing an original composition "Divine Creation":
