Mitch Grainger is an Australian performer, songwriter and harp player who now resides in the US. I used to catch him with his then band called Papa Lips (around '96/7). Mitch has developed an interesting new Mic which he has recently launched on the Kickstarter site. There are various video clips on the site to show and hear what the Mic can do. Worth checking out.
Interesting. the magnetized interface is handy. I didn't catch what the 2 small switches are for underneath. I guess hand effects are not going to happen there.
Please give us a review when you get yours! ---------- Music and travel destroy prejudice.
I just stumbled across this post and figured I'd avail myself to any questions? Meantime...
Jbone, the switches are for a mute and a low pass filter. On the overdrive model (FireBird) the low pass filter is replaced by an overdrive boost.
Martin, In this clip I'm using a Dyna-Mic Classic direct (no amp) into the PA. The audio you're hearing is a stereo feed from the desk and a room mic.
Further.. in this clip I am using the same Dyna-mic direct into the recording console. Reverb and delay added in the mix only.
Sky is the limit with this thing. Interchangeable effects, impedance's, feedback gates, wireless.. you name it... and shhhhh Harp2Swing but if Dyna-mic raises enough through Kickstarter via pre-orders all Dyna-mics will come with this modular option.. that's the real reason I'm doing this Kickstarter, to take it to the next level!
Hey Mitch, thanks for those clips, Really shows that the Mic puts out great Tone whether going through a console or a PA. I've heard the Firebird version through an Amp on the Kickstarter site, nice preamp installed in the Mic. Can't wait to receive one! Hope it all goes well for you!
This latest update from Dyna-mic inventor Mitch Grainger..."It’s looking good guys!
With 13.6k already raised we’re on track to reach our 20k funding target and deliver your Dyna-mics in time for the holiday season.
With this in mind we have been working hard behind the scenes, talking with our suppliers, finalizing and testing the circuit boards that run Dyna-Mic’s internal Pre-amps… and generally making sure everything is ready to go for production as soon as the campaign is funded!
And… we’ve added a 30 day money back guarantee!
If for some crazy reason you don’t fall in love with your Dyna-Mic when you receive it. Simply send your Dyna-mic back undamaged and we will give you a full refund, no questions asked.
Now… let's do this. Tell three people you know who might be interested in trying and owning a Dyna-mic about this Kickstarter... and together we'll get this campaign funded!
Sounds great Mitch (fellow expat Aussie here, but in Japan).
I like the fact you can switch between a cleanish and a dirty sound.
I have a couple of questions
Could you explain more about the gaskets? How long should they last with regular use? I use a mix mainly of Lee Oskar + Suzuki Manji (with a few other misc. Suzuki's lying around). Will one gasket work for all those?
Will it work with any other neck rack? I use a flexrack with a STRND currently (direct into NI Guitar Rig for various effects from clean to dirt to electronica) and the harp just clips to the rack as per normal with the STRND attached on back. Is there enough room to do that, or are you constrained to your neck rack only?
There's two types of gasket. Our standard Harp-Gasket that fits 80% of your standard commercially available harmoincas. Lee Oskar and Manji's work great with this, and switch out in 2 seconds.
Then there's our range of Pro-Gaskets. These have a die-cut felt lining tailored to fit specific models of harp like a glove. This gives a more airtight sound, in the same way the perfect cup would. With more bass response, overdrive (from element compression)and feedback reduction. Harps again switch out very easily.. in 3 seconds.. ;)
A list of our current Pro-gasket range can be found here in our faq: bit.ly/Dyna-mic-faq
All of our gaskets are quality, machined from ABS and will last equally as long as any harmonica, most likely much longer, as long as they are looked after in the same way any good mic or harp should be.
The racks... I've tested the Dyna-mic with a Flexrack and it fits. Tony Eyers @harmonicatunes can attest to this, as we tested that together when I was back in Australia over the summer. Generally speaking... a Dyna-mic is 17/16th wide so depending on the spring tension of your standard rack, should fit.
Looking at the farmer rack, this would work too, by switching out our standard magnet with one compatible to their system. I may even make this an add on option. Simply buy the magnet and switch it out yourself..
Having said all that, the Steady-Rack I have designed uses the same locking teeth idea as the flexrack (which hohner has recently discontinued by the way) and yet is lighter, sleeker and better looking, while retaining the strength. I stand by it and highly recommend it.
Hope that helps mate! Mg
Ps. I love Japan, I've toured there a couple of times and found it fascinating.
