I’ve got a VHT Special 6. I’ve swapped the 12ax7 for a 5751 and like the sound change a lot. I’m wondering if it would be useful to upgrade the power tube from the stock one to a better quality brand. I know I can’t change the tupe of tube in that slot, but do better quality power tubes make for a better sound?

It is perfectly possible to swap the 6V6 for a 6L6GC. All you need to do is change the cathode bias resistor of the power tube, then use a different impedance tap for your speaker : for example you 4 ohms speaker now will connect to the 8 ohms output (as would a 8 ohms connect to the 16 ohms output).
See Rob Robinnette's excellent website for more infos : https://robrobinette.com/Special6UltraMod.htm

I had VHT Special 6 and did a 5751 and used a Tung-Sol 6V6GT and it warmed it defiantly sounded better than stock but I put a Emenince Lil Buddy hemp cone speaker in it and it made a huge improvement really opened it up got rid of that boxy sound some smaller amps can have, better response and bass. I was using an older Shure Bullet and got a great sound out of it.
