I don’t think I’ve ever been so proud of a painting. It might not be perfect and I found things I could’ve done better as soon as I finished it. But I still don’t want to change a single thing. This was made with pure emotion. The strong feelings of joy, anger, regret and sadness. My dad was a complicated man with a big heart and many talents. But he was not easy to live with, and he was definitely not very good at being a father. I don’t hate him, nor do I love him. I respect the being he was and parts of me feel sorry for him. I’m frustrated by how our relationship has affected me mentally but it will be something I’ll be able to work through eventually. I do wish he could see this painting though, because it was one of the few things I could actually talk to him about without worrying about him starting with his rants. I wish things could’ve been different, but it is what it is. It’s been one year since you died, and three years since I met you. You are missed.
