My local jam has a great PA, stage, lights, etc....if you play guitar. For harp, they have a 520DX, plugged into a DI box, straight into the board (gag).

I think he puts a touch of reverb on it, but I’d like to help him improve the EQ. It sounds so thin and weak. I know every situation is different but are there any EQ tips I should throw at him? Boost lows and cut highs like you would an amp?

Boost bass. Roll back the treble a bit, but not too much because you might lose the bite to cut through the mix.

Better yet, buy a Joyo American Sound pedal (they are not expensive). Bring it along and plug it in between the mic and the DI box.

I played in an acoustic trio in 2000-2001 using a 520DX to the PA. You are on target about rolling off highs and boosting lows to give more body. But the group I played in was acoustic to PA, with guitar, vocals, violin, and harmonica. The mic added a little grit, but it was not distorted harp. At a loud amplified jam, I just don't think you can hope to get good amplified tone with this setup.

If you can be heard FOH at such a jam and can hear yourself onstage using this setup, without feedback, you are doing great.
