Prior to reading Adam's thread about beginner gear for amplified harp, I had not paid any attention to the Fender Champion 20 and 40 amps, but having read about them now, I'm intrigued.

Particularly interesting to me are the aux in and headphone jacks, which would make a great combination for practicing amplified with jam tracks without bothering the neighbors.

Also, I'm curious about how these amps sound through the speaker and how much volume they make. How much does the Champion 20 sound like a vintage tube Champ, and can the Champion 40 approach the sound quality and volume of a Bassman?

I'd be interested to hear impressions from any of you guys who have played either amp.

The circuits are the same (even in the 100w version) the power section it what chenges.

I owned teh Champion 40 for a while and I love it. Sounds good, and it has volume enough for giging. Since is a SS amp, you dont depend on volume to get the tone, yo set your tone and the volume knob just make it louder. That is a big plus for me.

Go for the Champion 40, same sound and you can play quiet or loud.
