I'm starting this discussion thread so we Indy area folks can notify each other of upcoming harmonica performances in our region. I believe there a handful of us on MBH forum.
I missed Dennis Gruenling at the Slippery Noodle in Indy last week. @mooncat even showed up in the audience. :( That what has sparked this thread.

Maybe we could get Nate to talk Adam into adding a section for all upcoming performances. Since forum members are from all over the country and all over the world, it would be nice to know about performances that are within reasonable traveling distance for any given area. I caught Dennis' performance last year in Chester, VT when he was playing a pizza joint there, but only because we were e-mailing at the time.

It's a great idea, Raven. At one point I tried to create a worldwide gigs list, using Google events (I believe), but it just didn't work. Time zones were a problem.
Really what we need is a sticky thread at the top of p. 1 with upcoming performances.

Adam, sometimes I see different performances listed in various threads on the forum, but most are just too far away from where I live. I'm about an hour north of Nate, but I never know of harp gigs taking place in the Capital Region of NY State or nearby Vermont or Massachusetts for that matter. If we could all share info about upcoming gigs in our respective areas, we might all have greater opportunities to meet other forum members as well as promote harp events through our social media contacts. There are also a number of events like street festivals, fairs and so forth that go on throughout the country wherein some of us get to play.

As a harmonica player in Gothenburg, Sweden I have to confess that my interest in upcoming gigs in the Indianapolis area is decidedly moot(even if you stretch it as far as Gary!), although I can understand their local attraction. Hopefully people will *not* take up Arrick´s idea here and start separate treads for gigs taking place in their home towns.

@MoonCat, I'll look him up. Thanks for the tip!! You don't know, who you don't know. You are on my radar for February in Bloomington.
@raven and @kudzurunner, those are great ideas. I'm a web developer and might put some ideas together. My good friend built www.vinylhunt.com to help connect folks to independent record stores and built it in a way that it's generated by user submissions. With very light moderation, it manages itself and is totally localized—really nice when you travel somewhere new. Something like that for events and an email subscription would be ideal.
@Martin, your interest in upcoming gigs in the Indianapolis area was strong enough to make you click and comment—even if out of frustration. :-P Honestly though, I totally get your point. Individual/localized threads this forum isn't a scalable solution, but the problem is real. If I could rename the thread, "How Do You Find Harmonica Shows Before They Happen?" that would have been a better discussion. Off-topic...I have a client in Vänersborg Sweden which (I think) is close to you. If I should ever get a chance to travel over, I might hit you up for a local tip.

@Arrick: Hopefully something can be worked out, ´cause I´d not mind that kind of service at all, within a manageable framework. Let me chime in on Mooncat´s recommendation of Paul Linden. Cf. the early Sean Costello records as evidence. (And quite a few of those who wake up every morning and fall on their knees and say "Kim Wilson, hallowed by thy name" could raise their eyes to Paul L for a change.)
(Yes Vänersborg is about an hour from here. Give me a hoot if you´re in the neighbourhood and I´ll try to point out the local attractions.)

I live in an area with a high percentage of people from NY, NJ, Mass, Mich, but for some reason most of the advertised live music is country??? So this thread got me thinking about whats around me, or not. So I tried a quick google search for live blues and jazz music near me,,,

Arrick,
I tend to miss the good shows too....mostly because I have a pretty busy schedule and just can't get out to the great shows because of other obligations.
While I don't want to toot my own horn, we put on a pretty good show, with harmonica definitely in front. We are an accoustic act, but play some pretty fun stuff including mostly blues with some other Americana. We play around town a lot, but not at the noodle.
We don't have anything on until after the end of the year (we are supposed to be recording) but usually show up at the chatterbox of mass ave., fat dan's, bier brewery, and a smattering of other spots around town. If you see "Philadelphia Phil and friends". That is us. ---------- Danny
