I have a Hohner Discovery 48 Chromatic. The blow & draw on holes 1&2 with the button slide out sounds good. But when I have the slide pushed in, the notes sound flat. I figure that I probably have to take the reed plates off & free them up. My question being. If I take off the reed plates, can I use the same screws to put the plates back on the comb, or do I need to get new screws in order to maintain tightness between the reed plates and comb? It's not like I'm replacing the reed plates where I know new screws are mandatory.

I've had to take several chromatics apart; I've always reused the screws.-Greg

New screws are never mandatory unless the existing ones are damaged.

All the replies so far are most helpful. Albeit I do own several chroms, the Discovery 48 is actually my favorite. And this will actually be the first time I have to open up any chromatic to address that sort of issue. I watched the Hohner video on replacing reed plates. It mentioned putting new screws in. But that was pertaining to new reed plates. But I'll take everyone's advise using the existing screws. And ensuring that my cat doesn't jump on the table interfering with my project.
