I'm starting to work on my own harps, and have a small assortment of harp sized screws. Does anyone have a guide to which screws each manufacturer uses for reed plates and covers? Length, thread type, etc? That way if I get a set of reed plates, I don't strip the threads in them with the wrong sized screws.

Hohner MS series use M1.6 10mm I believe...I always change them from stock to stainless if I put a comb in....I can't remember on Seydel or Suzuki but I'll try to look...Andew Zajack would know off the top of his head. If you get them from Rockin' Ron they will be the right thread pitch.

I like to have M2 and M1.6 in 10&12mm on hand. I most commonly use M2x10. It is also nice to have nuts for each on hand,in case the threads strip or wear out on the reed plate. ---------- www.shakeylee.com

Hohner uses M1.6 X 10 on all their diatonics. The Marine Band Special 20 used M2 X 10. There are still plenty of them in the pipeline. It is very common to get a new Special 20 with the Progressive Series covers that still have the older reed plates.
Seydel uses M1.6 X 10
Suzuki uses M2 X 10
When converting a Marine Band 1896 from nails to screws I will use either the M1.6 X 10 or the American 1-72 X 3/8”. Some guys use the 0-80, which I find are good for replacing reeds but a bit too small for my liking for reed plates. Some guys use the M2 X 10 but they are a little bit larger than I like.
I use M 1.4 X 3 for reed replacement. You have to snip off or grind off the excess length of the screw.
Binding Screws for covers are another story. Very hard to find in a size that is good for harps. I buy mine from Seydel by the 1000’s. In fact, I buy most of the screws I use by the 1000. It is much less expensive that way but unless you go through a lot of screws, it is hard to justify buying that many.
