First time I played live in 10 years (or so) happened by a phone call from our own Gnarly, who informed he was in my neighborhood at the Turquoise Cafe / Cafe Europa just up the street from my house. He was playing there prior to the main jazz band that was coming on at 8pm, so why don't I come on down. I said ubetcha, took a C,A,Bb and D harmonica with me (all Fenders, incidentally) and headed out. Long story short, neither Gnarly nor I had met in real life, but we got down to working through some Latin-bossa nova tunes from his play list.Didn't know most of the tunes, but I caught the themes quickly and as we went on, it sounded a little ragged, but right. Other musicians, a flute player, and two other guitarists , joined us , and the jam continued for another 40 minutes. A swell bunch of guys, great fun. Thanks , Gnarly, for the opportunity. ---------- Ted Burke
