One of the many projects I have been working on is a design for CNC Milled Covers. It is taking a little longer than I hoped, but we are making progress. I made some prototypes back in January and sent them off to our VP of New Product Development – Jason Ricci – for testing and evaluation. The feedback was extremely positive, however there is always room for improvement. Having a hands-on model to work with enables us to identify how the design can be improved. Here are some photos of what I expect will be the final design. This is actually the third set of prototypes. I just picked these up from my machinist this morning so they are un-finished. They are CNC Milled Aluminum Covers for the Suzuki Manji. The milling marks are clearly visible. This sample happens to be mounted on a Linen Phenolic comb. The covers will be polished smooth and will be Chrome or Black Nickel Plated (some of each). I have a dozen sets of covers and will use them to build custom Manjis. They will make their debut at the SPAH Convention in Tulsa, OK August 15 – 20th. Come visit the Vendor’s Area. Blue Moon Harmonicas and Lone Wolf Blues Company will be side by side and Jason will be helping in both booths.

will they fit on a manji?

i would think manji reedplates on your comb and your coverplates would make that harp a contender. all it would need is a decent tuning. that would pretty much fix all the issues with the manji.

This is a Manji. Sorry for not clarifying that. I have a design for the Marine Band on the drawing board. It is very similar to the Manji - just a little smaller front to back. I will stretch it out a bit for the 1847 and then I plan to make covers for the Special 20, the Session Steel and Suzuki HarpMaster so they will seamlessly integrate with my milled recessed combs.

i see said the blind man...

the covers on the manji are the weak point, this should fix that. most manufactures, they hear but usually will not listen. they can't afford too.

combine that with your comb, holy smoke. nice work tom. all the best.
