Can't hold this in any longer. Couple years of showing up, putting myself out sitting in when asked has paid off. Just got asked to play at the big summer blues fest here in Vancouver with an up and coming awesome guitar playing/song writer and his East Vancouver band.

Bring it!!!

Congrats! That's how it's done--get out and play with real live musicians in public and learn from the mistakes you make so you do better the next time out and only make different mistakes. That's how to keep learning different things that you can't pick up from playing at home with pre-recorded back up tracks. Have a good good gig at the blues fest and try to stay relaxed.

Yup, Burnaby Roots and Blues. We'll be on the Garden Stage. Sue Foley, Matt Anderson and Trombone Shorty are the main stage headliners.

@bluemoose: Come to think of it, if my memory is not failing me, your situation reminds of the first time I got paid to play harp. I had been sitting in regularly with a black blues band (I'm white) sometime back in early mid '80's and they invited me to play with them on the big stage at a local outdoor festival. Man was I excited! After we finished, we were standing around behind the stage when a representative of the organizers came by with a checkbook and wrote a check to each member of the band. I was astounded when she asked me my name and wrote a check for me, too. I wasn't expecting to be paid or even thinking about it, and was so startled I didn't know how to act. Reading your post dredged up the memory.
